Where in Vancouver are streets with no trees?

Made with NeuraCities

538 of Vancouver's 17,072 street segments, about 45 km in total, have no public tree within 20 m. The longest stretches are on Kent Avenue, Boundary Road, Renfrew Street, Oak Street and Granville Street.

By neighbourhood, the most treeless segments are in Kensington-Cedar Cottage (52), Renfrew-Collingwood (47), Sunset (41) and Strathcona (39). By street type, 290 are residential, 162 arterial, 70 secondary arterial and 13 collector.

How this was worked out

  • We used City of Vancouver Public Trees (184,016 trees) and Public Streets (17,072 centreline segments).
  • For each street segment we measured the distance to the nearest inventoried tree. Segments with none within 20 m are counted as treeless.

Limitation: the inventory covers City street and park trees only, not private yards or Musqueam lands. Some "treeless" segments, especially near Musqueam lands and park edges, are gaps in the records rather than bare streets.

What it did
